“Madame Mephisto” and its author A. M. Bakalar

Merseyside Polonia will present a Polish writer based in the UK who reflects on her experience of Poland from London perspective and Englishness from Polish migrant side through a fictional character presented in her book “Madame Mephisto”.

The book was revieved by leading newspapers with comments in the Guardian: ‘The book was fun…Magda makes some great observations about Britain and is pretty scathing about the Polish and their culture.’ and revealed political dimension to the story in The Times: ‘Madame Mephisto shows how both totalitarianism and theocracy oppress women and infantilize men. During the event the audience will hear few exerts from the book, there will be Q&A session and opportunity to purchase the book signed by the author.
